Dooley Trivia

Question: Which company’s first logo featured Sir Isaac Newton sitting under a tree?

Answer: Apple Inc.

When Apple was founded in 1976, its very first logo was a complex and ornate illustration designed by Ronald Wayne (yes, the lesser-known Apple co-founder who sold his shares just 12 days later for $800!).

The logo depicted Sir Isaac Newton sitting beneath an apple tree, with an apple hanging above his head—symbolizing the moment of discovery that led to Newton’s theory of gravity. The border of the logo was wrapped in a ribbon banner that read:

"Newton... A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought... Alone."

Apple's original Logo

While poetic, the logo was far too detailed and old-fashioned for a tech startup looking to disrupt the future. Just a year later, Apple scrapped it and adopted the iconic rainbow apple logo designed by Rob Janoff—ushering in a new era of branding simplicity and bold color.

Why "Dooley?"

Inspired by the founder's alma mater - Emory University's spirit mascot, Dooley represents the voice of the student body. And when Dooley shows up to your class, you can count on a fun time and the rest of the day off!
