Workforce Watch: March 2026

March continued to bring workforce reductions across multiple industries, reinforcing a trend we've seen throughout the past year. Companies are adjusting to shifting market conditions, cost pressures, and ongoing restructuring efforts — and with each workforce change comes operational and security considerations that organizations can't afford to overlook.

March Layoff Highlights

  • Meta Platforms: Began layoffs on March 25, affecting teams in Reality Labs, Facebook, recruiting, and sales, with reports suggesting deep, ongoing restructuring.

  • Atlassian: Cut approximately 1,600 employees, about 10% of its workforce, to shift funding toward AI initiatives.

  • Oracle: Announced plans to cut thousands of jobs to finance AI-focused data centers.

  • Messari: Initiated mass layoffs and a CEO change as part of a strategic pivot to AI.

  • UPS (United Parcel Service): Continued its restructuring plan by announcing 30,000 potential operational role cuts, along with facility closures in early 2026.

  • Crunchyroll: Announced staff layoffs as part of a broader company restructuring.

  • Block, Inc.: Cut roughly 40% of its workforce as part of an AI-driven overhaul of its operational model.

  • Mastercard: Confirmed a 4% reduction of its global workforce, amounting to about 1,400 positions.

The Hidden Risk of Workforce Reductions

Layoffs often create challenges such as:

  • Unreturned laptops and equipment

  • Data security risks

  • Delays in redeploying assets

  • Increased replacement costs

  • Inconsistent offboarding processes

Without a structured retrieval process, these challenges can quickly lead to lost assets, unnecessary spending, and security exposure.

Why IT Asset Retrieval Matters More Than Ever

With many organizations still supporting remote and hybrid employees, retrieving equipment is no longer as simple as collecting devices at the office. Companies need a scalable, repeatable process to manage IT asset recovery efficiently.

A structured IT asset retrieval approach helps organizations:

  • Recover valuable hardware

  • Protect sensitive data

  • Reduce replacement costs

  • Improve offboarding efficiency

  • Maintain compliance and security standards
